Patrick Ludwig

Yens Steller and Patrick Ludwig created the Steller Ludwig Foundation with the aim of improving health and education around the world. They are also co-owners of the eco-luxury Drake Bay Getaway Resort located on the beautiful Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica.

Born and raised in Drake Bay, Yens left Costa Rica to pursue his profession as a computer scientist in Seattle, WA. His success as a manager at a large software company afforded him many opportunities to accelerate his career. After marrying Patrick in 2013, the two decided to trade in their high-tech jobs for a plot of land in Costa Rica. Yens always dreamt of ways to give back to local communities, and he decided Drake Bay was the perfect place to start.

As an electrical engineer, Patrick began his career at the fortune 100 company, Honeywell. He went on to patent four avionic system inventions before he and Yens resolved to move to Drake Bay to begin a new adventure –- building a luxury ecolodge from scratch.

Inspired by the land and its people, Yens and Patrick founded the Steller Ludwig Foundation to fund and promote community health and education initiatives that support the disadvantaged individuals who give so much to the country they call home.

Why Health & Education?

Access to essential health and education is a fundamental human right regardless of age, gender, ethnic or socio economic background.

We know that a healthy mind and body adds value on a personal, community, country and global level. It’s time to put humans at the center of development. We are committed to joining the fight to eradicate poverty around the world.

To do so, we focus our work on improving access to essential health and education services. In direct alignment with eight of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), the projects support:

Our Vision for Health

According to a 2017 report by the World Economic Forum, at least half the world’s population is without essential health services. Lack of physical and mental health translates into an inability to work, learn, care for family members, and actively participate in a community. We envision a world where all children and adults have the opportunity to improve and expand the health of their mind, body and spirit. By focusing on projects that encourage better health among individuals, we can bring safety and security to communities worldwide.

Our Vision for Education

According to a 2017 UNESCO report, 264 million children aren’t receiving a formal education. The ability of an individual to learn and grow through education opens doors to limitless possibilities. Through education, a child or adult can contribute to their family, community and the world. By focusing on initiatives that directly improve access to education, we can enrich the futures of generations to come.
